Cavalaire

Happiness all year round

Sheltered by a cirque of wooded hills and bordered by fine sandy beaches, the bay of Cavalaire enjoys an idyllic climate all year round. This dynamic seaside resort offers you the assurance of family fun by the sea.

A PARADISE FOR SEA LOVERS

Cavalaire is a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts, and has been awarded the France Station Nautique label. Sailing, windsurfing, yachting, jet skiing, flyboarding and even hydro microlighting are all available on this magnificent stretch of water! You can also discover some remarkable diving sites.

From the harbour, set sail for the Iles d’Or, discover the coastal path and its creeks, or just let yourself be lulled by the calm of the bay… And let’s not forget the simple pleasures of swimming in the clear sea (classified as “bathing water quality”), relaxing under the shade of a parasol planted at your leisure on the 4 km of fine sand in the commune.

SPORTS AND CULTURE ALL YEAR ROUND

Cavalaire offers an eclectic programme of events (Festival de Théâtre des Tragos, Fête de la Saint-Pierre, Corso des Lumières, Les Scintillantes de Noël, Festival de Bonporteau, concerts and stage aperitifs) throughout the year, including its superb media library containing over 40,000 books and top-class exhibitions, as well as the Athéna cinema on the harbour. Not to mention the crazy cabaret evenings at the Casino de Jeux, for jackpot lovers.

FAMILY FUN

As the seasons go by, it’s always a great time for all the family: a nature walk along the Fenouillet path overlooking the Mediterranean, a stroll by the sea or a game of pétanque in the village square. Cavalaire offers a combination of authentic pleasures that are accessible to all: accommodation, facilities and leisure activities, everything has been thought of for young and old alike. The town offers high-quality services in a friendly setting.

LET’S GO FOR A WALK

Between two shopping sprees, it’s great to stroll along the Promenade de la Mer, either on foot or on rollerblades, have a drink and enjoy a meal on a sunny terrace. Cavalaire offers a wide range of shops to suit all tastes. In season, as night falls, the streets come alive with music and the glow of multicoloured neon lights to prolong this delightful programme of friendly holidays in the warmth of the nights.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

The Roman port of Cavalaire (Heraclea Caccabaria) is mentioned in Antoninus’ maritime itinerary, a guide for the use of ancient sailors. The remains of several coastal Roman villas, which produced and exported wine, have been found here.
Cavalaire belonged to the monks of the collegiate church of Pignans (in the 13th century) and, from the 15th century onwards, to the powerful de Castellane family. Its port and fishermen’s cottages can be traced back to the 15th century, but the area was virtually deserted from the 16th century onwards. It was the construction of the Pignes train in 1895 that spurred its development. On 15 August 1944, the commune was the scene of the D-Day landings in Provence. Tourism was to be the driving force behind its subsequent growth.
