CONFERENCE PRESENTED BY GABRIEL MONTUA Director of the Berggruen Museum in Berlin and co-curator of the eponymous exhibition presented at the Musée de l'Orangerie from 02.10.24 to 27.01.25

Gabriel MONTUA invites the Friends of the Annonciade to discover the tenant of the gallery at 70 rue de l'Université in Paris, who became, in his own words, his "best customer, collecting exceptional works by Picasso, Matisse, Klee, Giacometti and Cézanne". The lecture will retrace the main stages in the eventful life of the man who had to flee his home town and, sixty years later, was welcomed back in triumph at the inauguration of his collection, which today forms the Berggruen Museum. A dialogue between personal accounts and the masterpieces in his collection reveals not only the portrait of a passionate art lover, but also that of a dealer-collector, a specific type of art collector whose examples can still be found in today's art world.
