As part of the Nuits des étoiles program (August 9-11), on Friday August 9 at 8:30pm the town invited Tropez astrophysicist Patrick Michel to talk about the latest space adventures to asteroids, in particular the DART and ISIRIS-Rex missions.

Asteroids are the remnants of the bricks that formed our planets. They can also sometimes fall to Earth - dinosaurs know all about that! Why do they allow us to go back in time to the birth of the Solar System? What role did they play in the origin of Life on Earth, and what are we doing to protect ourselves from them?

With extraordinary space adventures to match those of Indiana Jones, and two months to go before the launch of the European Space Agency's Hera mission, which is contributing to the first asteroid deflection test with NASA's DART mission, Patrick Michel will provide answers to these questions about the origins of the Solar System, planets, Life and its protection.

The astrophysicist from the Nice-Côte d'Azur Observatory will present the results of recent, current and future space adventures, and the incredible challenges offered by these small worlds, whether to explore them, bring samples back to Earth - some of which are currently being analyzed in Nice - or deflect them. Hollywood movie scriptwriters will find plenty of inspiration here!
