As part of the retrospective exhibition Jacques Cordier (1937 - 1975), le peintre secret de Saint-Tropez (August 9 - September 14, 2025), Luc Ferry will give a lecture on August 20 at the Salle Jean Despas on the meaning of beauty in art. During this event, Mr. Ferry, French philosophy professor, essayist and politician, who has long reflected on the notion of beauty in art and its meaning, will evoke figurative creation in the second half of the 20th century, heir to a centuries-old tradition and often at odds with contemporary avant-garde creation, and place it in the context of the difficult but necessary search for beauty to which Jacques Cordier dedicated his short but intense career.
A painter who went against the grain of the avant-garde, Jacques Cordier strove throughout his life to produce art that was just and likely to arouse the viewer's emotion. Without complacency towards the creative tendencies of his time, he succeeded in producing a unique body of work testifying to a passion for Saint Tropez and its landscapes.
