To protect itself from attack, Saint-Tropez quickly became a fortified town with four towers: the Portalet tower, the Tour Vieille, the Tour Jarlier and the Tour Suffren.
The Portalet tower, the starting point of the port's main jetty, overlooks the La Glaye creek on the other side, and dates back to the 15th century.
